One Piece Theory: Vivi Will Join the Revolutionary Army

Developments in Chapter 1085 of One Piece put Vivi on the World Government's target list, and her best option is to ally with the Revolutionary Army.

The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter 1085, "The Death of Nefeltari Cobra," by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English from Viz Media.

After decades of serialization, One Piece is finally doing one reveal after another heading into its final saga. The recent Reverie is the perfect excuse to answer many longstanding mysteries -- and one of them is related to a fan-favorite character, Nefertari Vivi. However, this truth also puts her in danger as the World Government seems set to begin targeting her.

Vivi joined the Straw Hat Pirates' voyage so early in their adventures that a fraction of the present crew haven't even met her yet. She also shares a special relationship with them. Despite not joining their quest, Luffy and the others have proclaimed her to be their nakama (or comrade) and made sure she knows it. Needless to say, the Straw Hats will undeniably let her on board the Thousand Sunny the moment she expresses her desire to do so. But instead of joining them again, it's more likely that Vivi will ally with the Revolutionary Army moving forward.

Chapter 1085 of One Piece continued Sabo's report to Dragon and Ivankov. The Revolutionary Army's second-in-command told the two higher-ups what he discovered inside the Pangea Castle, including how King Cobra met his demise. It started with the Alabasta king's audience with the Five Elders, where he inquired about his ancestor Nefertari Lily and the lack of written records about her existence. In fact, the only evidence he has of it is a written letter penned by the ancient monarch that's been handed down from one king to the next.

This is the very same letter that made Imu appear in front of Cobra, and the reason why the monarch lost his life. However, Cobra didn't go down in vain and revealed that Lily's full name is actually Nefertari D. Lily, prompting Imu to end him. Sabo stepped in and attempted to save the king, and Cobra took that opportunity to relay a message to both Vivi and Luffy. He wanted Sabo to tell Vivi that she also bears the enigmatic initial of "D".

Meanwhile, Vivi escaped from CP0's clutches with the help of the frightened Wapol. It's likely that she also used Wapol to escape from Marijoa, which will result in her being targeted by the World Government.

Prior to Sabo's recollection of the events, Vivi was shown flying together with Morgans -- the president of the World Economy News Paper. With the princess surely being targeted by the World Government, the question is what steps she will take to avoid them. There is always the option of rejoining Luffy and the Straw Hats in their voyage, though Vivi may no longer fit in with the crew -- and could even be a liability during the upcoming war.

While courageous and determined, Vivi lacks the physical strength and combat abilities the rest of the Straw Hats possess. Luffy and his crew have undergone numerous power-ups, honing their skills and unlocking new abilities to face increasingly formidable opponents. Given that the "Alabasta" arc was among the earliest in One Piece, the present-day Straw Hat Pirates have grown far stronger since then. Even Nami, who is arguably the weakest among the crew, now has Zeus in her possession. Conversely, Vivi has mostly seen peaceful days as Alabasta's crown princess.

Vivi also has her position to consider. As the princess of Alabasta and leader of her people, she bears significant responsibilities and obligations. Her primary focus is ensuring the welfare and prosperity of her kingdom. Joining the Straw Hat Pirates would require her to abandon her people, an idea she has already rejected in the past. Given these factors, it's evident that Vivi's role as a Straw Hat member would be incompatible with her current strengths, responsibilities and limitations.

As King Cobra is no more, Vivi's position now holds a heavier bearing in One Piece. As the rightful heir to the throne, she is officially Alabasta's queen, though she is yet to be formally acknowledged as such. Nonetheless, it will be up to her to lead her people. Although the World Government can't openly hunt her without a valid reason, the fact that she possesses the "D" initial makes it impossible for them to ignore her existence. Even if they were to leave her be, she can't possibly let them off the hook for murdering her father. One way for Vivi to settle her score with the World Government without abandoning her responsibilities is to ally her kingdom with the Revolutionary Army.

Such an alignment would provide Vivi and the people of Alabasta with invaluable benefits and protection. The Revolutionary Army is a formidable force that opposes the World Government's oppressive rule. By joining their ranks, Vivi can gain access to resources, guidance and support that would help her protect her kingdom from the World Government and its agents' machinations.

Vivi's and the Revolutionary Army's interests have significant overlaps. They share a common enemy in the form of the World Government and the Celestial Dragons. The Revolutionary Army also seeks to dismantle the oppressive system and bring about a more just world. Assuming they will face the World Government head-on in future One Piece chapters, then Vivi will still have a chance to fight alongside the Straw Hat Pirates in the upcoming war.
