Tom Daley shares his latest knitted cardigan with unusual technique

It created a cute tassel effect

Not only is Tom Daley an Olympic gold medal-winning diver – he's also an accomplished knitter.

Tom regularly takes to social media to share his latest creations, including recently creating a gorgeous matching cardigan and blanket set for his baby son Phoenix, with husband Dustin Lance Black.

And the former diver and podcast host has shared another fabulous knitted make – this time posing in a handmade birthday cardigan.

Tom turned 29 on 21 May. To celebrate, he shared the series of pictures of himself in a birthday hat and wearing his red and pink cardigan on his Made With Love Instagram page.

Alongside the pictures, he wrote: "So what d’you think?! My birthday patch work cardigan. I can't always be bothered weaving in ends so I thought why not make a feature out of them and this is what I came up with..."

Tom made up the cardigan in red and pink patches, with added heart motifs – including a crochet heart stitched over the top of a patch on his lapel. He used garter stitch, rib stitch and moss stitch to make up the design.

Tom explained that he hates the process of weaving in the ends – that's the tails of yarn left after the yarn has been cast off. He instead used the ends to create a boho tassel-effect across his cardigan.

As well as knitting for himself and his family, Tom shares his knitting on his Made With Love podcast, including recently teaching Formula 1 driver Lando Norris the basic knitting stitches.
